Milan's 1997/98 away shirt, made by Lotto with Opel on the chest, is a white design with red sleeves carrying a sharp geometric pattern and a white V neck with red and black trim. This is the long sleeve version, worn in the season Fabio Capello returned to San Siro after a year at Real Madrid, hoping to repair a side that had finished 11th without him.
The task proved harder than expected. Milan finished 10th in Serie A and Capello left at the end of the season, although George Weah led the scoring and the club reached the Coppa Italia final. Paolo Maldini, Zvonimir Boban, Dejan Savicevic, Edgar Davids, Patrick Kluivert and Marcel Desailly all featured in a star studded squad.
